The origins of the city date back to the mid-4th century BC. and reached its maximum flowering under the rule of Rome.
A walk along Corso Umberto, the ancient Consular Valeria road, will lead us to discover corners where the remains of the various dominations that contributed to writing its long history are still visible.
From Porta Messina, the northern gate of the city, the place where the Greek-Roman city developed, we will visit the Ancient Theatre, from inside which it will be possible to enjoy a unique panorama of the bay of Naxos and Etna. We will then continue towards Porta Catania, crossing the medieval area where, in what was once the Jewish quarter, there is the Cathedral-fortress and the “Palazzo dei Giurati”.
The city, also known as the Pearl of the Ionian Sea, is a concentration of artistic, natural and cultural beauties, a source of inspiration for writers, poets and travellers.
